Welcome Congressman Peter King

YOUR CONGRESSMAN IS COMING TO YOUR SCHOOL TO TALK ABOUT THE ROLE THE US PLAYS IN FOREIGN AND DOMESTIC POLICY.

IN THE COMMENTS SECTION BELOW WRITE DOWN SOME QUESTIONS YOU'D LIKE TO ASK HIM BASED ON THE VIDEOS I HAVE PROVIDED:

PETER KING AND THE IRAN NUCLEAR DEAL

PETER KING AND THE MEXICAN DRUG CARTELS

PETER KING ON PRESIDENT TRUMP'S POLICIES TOWARD N. KOREA AND CHINA

As a graded homework assignment, I would like you to think of some questions you have based on the above videos or your own personal politics.  I would like you to make every effort to address these questions to the Congressman on Monday.

  1. Please think carefully about your question and have it prepared to discuss in class on Friday November 3rd.

  2. Obviously when dealing with foreign dignitaries conflicting interests can create a challenge, but how much of an obstacle is the language barrier when meeting with these individuals

    1. They have translators Kevin so this may not be the best question. Perhaps asking him how does a Congressman deal with foreign relations?

I see signs about the Constitutional Convention and a lot of signs say “Vote No.” Can you explain what this is. How would you vote and why?

After the most recent terrorist attack in the city, what is the best thing our country can do to protect ourselves?

I know President Trump does not think that climate change is a legitimate problem, what is your opinion on it?

  8. You have made it clear through many circumstances military action should be a last resort for our country but a necessary action in means of protection. In reguards to foreign aid do you believe President Trump needs to seek authorization from Congress the next time he wants to strike Seria? Would you vote for or against such military force?

  9. Based on your recent voting record, what made you vote yes on the American Healthcare Act when it's CBO score stated that it would leave 23 million Americans uninsured by 2026?

With the Trump administrations recent action to expand employers rights to deny birth control, will you be issuing any public statements or legislation encouraging businesses to put birth control into their health insurance plans

  10. I understand you have pushed for declaring English as the United States' national language and tried to require that all government services be conducted in English, why is it so important to you to limit the country to one language when it is founded on a conglomerate of many languages and cultures? How does it benefit the United States?

How did you vote for the reauthorizing of the Violence Against Women Act while also voting against the Employment Non-Discrimination Act?

If the North Korean public was not indoctrinated how do you believe the rhetoric used towards the country would have to change?

  13. You have criticized the Senate's healthcare bill in the past due to its severity regarding Medicaid cuts and that it will negatively impact many New Yorkers currently under Medicaid. How would you respond to the argument that eliminating government subsidies of healthcare, like Medicaid, would create competitive markets and increase opportunities and benefits for consumers?

With regards to the President's strategy for foreign policy with North Korea, you have stated in the past that, in the presence of evidence that N.K. is planning an attack, you would support a pre-emptive strike. Would the nature of that strike be "boots on the ground" or a nuclear attack, drone attack, or what specifically do you believe would be the best course of military action in that case?

  15. Grace Hessler

Mexico's economical future is perceived to be very promising as they are one of the leading oil producers
and have a growing industrial region. However their growth will take time and expenses to get up to that point. We, the US, are very closely tied to Mexico and their economy. Keeping in mind that our taxes is what is paying for many of Mexico's reforms, should we continue aiding Mexico in hope of their prospective growth, or should we step out of their affairs?
